The semi-circle Grand Chai gave a view “in such a way that from this vantage, you could neither see the beginning nor the end of the barrel room. The experience conveyed a sense of infinity as the chai disappeared to the left and the right, wrapping the tasting room.” Scott Johnson

Rothschild Family Private Collection
Richard Guino was a French sculptor of Catalan origin. He dedicated his work as an ode to femininity reviving the Mediterranean idea of beauty, women supple and powerful. He primarily worked in wood, wax, marble, terracotta, plasters and glass. He collaborated with Pierre-Aguste Renoir who was elderly and suffered arthritis at the time and sought to learn sculpture techniques. Guinot became Renoirs “hands”. This work was originally a wood relief sculpture and a joint effort with Renoir.
Guino’s works are exhibited at the Hotel Le Bristol Paris (1974), Paskine de Ginoux, Strasbourgh (1976), Mison de Renoir aux Collettes Cagnes-sur-Mer (1977). The Renoir-Guino sculptures can be found at the Musee d”Orsay Paris, Tate Gallery London, Museum of Modern Art, NY, Contemporary Sculpture Center, Tokyo, to mention a few. His studio just outside Paris has also been converted into a museum of his works

American 110R Rootstock, Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 7.
Planted 1985, dug up 2010.
Carefully dug up in 2010 from our vineyard along Highway 29, this vine measures 8’+. It was dug up for display in the SFMOMA exhibit “How Wine Became Modern, Design + Wine 1976 to Now” (2010). The vine was then cut in an Omega graft cut to show how varietals are grafted to rootstock. The SFMOMA exhibit ran from November 2010 through April 2011.

Before building the Vineyard Workshop, Opus One had an outside wood platform for crushing grapes. In 2006 it was dismantled and much of the wood was given to a local nursery and the Sebastiani Vineyard. In return, Sebastiani made this grafting table for us (from some of that wood) that we could use for display on grafting technique
