Naoki Sakamato owns a custom paper store in Tokyo and is an artist specializing in making ancient style papers and painting on them in Sumi style – “sumi-e is ink wash painting in black ink in different concentrations.  Sumi origin is the Tang Dynasty China 618-907AD and was adopted for Japanese calligraphy and ink painting.”

Philippe Anthonioz, Born 1953 France.

Custom Designed Bronze, 1988.

Anthonioz, a sculptor, designer and custom furniture maker has his studio in Paris France.  He is known for large scale abstract public statuary as well as custom made functional objects and lighting.  He was a protégé of Diego Giacometti.

Anhtonioz’ work can be found in the Musee Picasso in Paris FR.

Suspended staircase, painted cement 1989-1991

The staircase is suspended between the 2 floors.  Over a dozen concrete trucks lined up to pour the entire stair in a single day, without joints, and no other contact than the 2 floors.  “It was a considerable feat of construction.”  Scott Johnson.

Scott Johnson, chief architect for Opus One, from Johnson Fain, states; “The concrete main stair is a playful version of what in Classical architecture would be referred to as a Palladian newel, that is to say, the vertical element of the balustrade.  Here, we set elaborate concrete forms so that the newell would be seen in reverse by the architectural devotees among us.”

The Terrace is a structural nod to the indigenous redwood in California, and the traditional Italian style of a pergola in honor of Mr. Mondavis’ Italian roots.

Johnson has written several books on architecture, has taught at several universities and currently resides in Los Angeles CA.

Joan Behnke is an acclaimed interior designer working out of Los Angeles CA.  She is the interior designer for the enhancement project at Opus One 2016-2020.

Her work has been featured in California Home, Forbes, Harpers Bazaar, Robb Report to mention a few.

The fabricator, Paul Ferrante, is a family owned and operated company in Los Angeles CA for over 50 years and specializes in custom lighting.
